I‘m dead serious y’all, I wanted to help.

He caught me walking into a convenience store with my uncomfortable but necessary mask on.

“God bless you, Sir, what can I do for you to get a few dollars so I can get something to eat. I just got out of jail on a 6-month bid and I’m hungry and need money to catch the train.”

Now, I’m sure everyone reading this has heard some variation of this story from people begging for money — and I usually blow it off but for some strange reason it kinda stuck with me.

He didn’t look like he was on drugs, nor did he look like a typical homeless cat.

I wanted to give him something but I didn’t have any change or singles in my pocket.

I’d dumped the change out of my pocket at home, so I didn’t have anything but a $10 bill in my wallet.

I have a golden rule when I deal with people begging for money.

Golden Rule: Never pull out your wallet.

I’ll give up loose change or singles in my pocket, but the wallet stays put.

Not saying he’d steal it, or stick me up.

I probably coulda took him if he tried. Maybe.

He was skinny and was about as tall as a 6th-grade basketball player who happens to be like 5…
